- Location: Elkader, Iowa
An Ex-professor, sort of, who has left academia, sort of, to pursue building playhouses full-time. I still teach at the local community college, mostly Physics and Statistics. In addition to the playhouses I do structural surveys prior to restorations, plan the restorations and supervise the restorations. I am also involved in the restoration as I am one of the last REAL plaster'ers and I reproduce historic woodwork (my favorite part of any restoration). I am the only playhouse builder in the country who is working with the National Program for Playground Safety (NPPS)

We are currently building our own playhouse for our 3 girls. We are wanting a dutch door but the price tag is too high - got any suggestions? or places to purchase doors?
AS a matter of fact I build doors. My original training was as a cabinet maker.
To build it yourself. Build a solid door that fits the opening. Then cut it in half for the "dutch door". Most of my playhouse doors are trimmed with 1x stock (which forms the lip for the door to close on. I trim out the "Dutch door" after I saw it "half" and then add the 1x stock with a lip from the top overlapping the bottom door.

Yes I have seen them..... Iam not fond of his corners nor the fact that he does nto have anadult access to them.
